Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, Ph.D., D.D.
Archbishop Emeritus of Washington

Cardinal McCarrick has traveled the world as a human rights advocate, surveying humanitarian needs and bringing prayers and financial support to people in areas affected by natural disasters. During his five years as Archbishop of Washington, he emphasized education, vocations and ministering to the needs of new immigrants, particularly in the Latino community. In 2006, the friars of Holy Name Province affiliated Cardinal McCarrick as an honorary member of the Order of Friars Minor because of his commitment to Christian unity, peace and justice.

Ambassador Thomas P. Melady
& Dr. Margaret Badum Melady

Recipients of the seventh annual Anselm Moons, OFM, Award

The Meladys exemplify FMS’ mission through their lifelong commitment to building bridges of peace and reconciliation between cultures, races and governments. We especially recognize their ambassadorial service to Burundi, Uganda and the Holy See. Prolific writers and scholars, they recently coauthored Ten African Heroes: The Sweep of Independence in Black Africa, which introduces readers to African independence leaders whom the Meladys met during their service on the continent.
