New staff
We are pleased to announce that Br.
Paul O’Keeffe, OFM, of Holy Name Province, has joined the staff of
Franciscan Mission Service as Development Director Br.
Paul is certainly not new to FMS. He first served with us as a lay
missioner in Kenya and Jamaica in the mid-1990s, and then again in
Ghana with S.M.A. from 1998 to 2002.
Since then, Br. Paul has continued to
serve with FMS on a regular basis. He spent the summers of 2007 and
2009 volunteering in our Washington, D.C. office. For the past three
years he has led retreats and assisted in the evaluation of missioner
candidates.
Sunday Soup Symposium - Jan. 29

Come join FMS for soup, bread and fellowship at our FIRST monthly Sunday Soup Symposium! We look forward to regularly gathering a community of Franciscan-hearted people in the DC area.
Sr. Margaret Mary Kimmins, OSF, of Bread for the World will lead a
short reflection to be followed by small group discussions. Sr.
Margaret Mary is an Allegeny Sister who serves on the board for the Franciscan Action Network and Washington Theological Union.
Please RSVP by Jan. 27 so we know how much food to prepare! The event is free, but free-will donations will be accepted. If you're driving, street parking is available. If you're taking the Metro, we're on the Red line at the Brookland/CUA stop.
Discernment Days - Feb. 23 -24
Potential missioners who have completed the first two phases of the application (initial application, resume, essay, five reference forms) will be invited to our Discernment Days on February 23 and 24. It's an opportunity for potential missioners to further their discernment by learning more about FMS and the Franciscan mission charism, as well as meeting with our staff and returned missioners.
Our World Care Annual Benefit and Celebration is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 16 at St. Francis Hall (1340 Quincy Street NE, Washington DC 20017). Come enjoy live music, a silent auction and wine, small plates and desserts. Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, will give the keynote address. FMS will honor Ambassador Thomas Melady and Dr. Margaret Badum Melady with the Seventh Annual Anselm Moon, OFM, Award. Tickets are $75 for an individual, $1,000 for a reserved table of ten.
