The Anselm Moons, OFM Award
was created to honor the founder of Franciscan Mission Service and to
recognize an individual who exemplifies the organization’s mission and
Franciscan values.
Fr. Anselm Moons, OFM, of the Dutch Franciscan Province, came to the U.S. in 1985 at the request of the North American Friars to create a lay foreign mission service, which would become Franciscan Mission Service. He launched the Lay Missioner Program in 1989 and the first class of missioners was commissioned and sent into the field in 1990.

2010: Sr. Barbara Fried, SMIC, long-time staff member at FMS, and her congregation, the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. 2009: Russel Testa, founder of Franciscan Action Network, and Megeen White Testa, FMS returned missioner and former Co-Director. 2008: Sr. Dianna Ortiz, OSU, former missionary to Guatemala, and founder of the Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition (TASSC). 2007: Marie Dennis, Director of Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns and Co-President of Pax Christi International. 2006: Fr. Joseph Nangle, OFM, former FMS Executive Director and member of the OFM Holy Name Province. 2005: Marguerite Hohm, for her sister, Sr. Dorothy Stang, a nun murdered in Brazil for advocating for the rights of poor farmers.Joseph Nangle, OFM Lifelong Mission Award
The Joseph Nangle, OFM Award
is presented to a returned missioner who completed his or her contract
with Franciscan Mission Service and has since made significant
contributions in Lifelong Mission to North America. The award recipient
continues to incorporate the Franciscan ideals of simplicity,
peacemaking, social justice, and respect for creation into his or her
life.
Fr. Joseph Nangle, OFM, served as the director/co-director of Franciscan Mission Service for 12 years, and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.

2010: Fr. George Corrigan, OFM, FMS Returned Missioner and member of the OFM Holy Name Province. 2009: Dan McNeil, FMS Returned Missioner and founder of Peacemaker Foundation, Inc.
